IMA launches book on fishing boat
On Thursday April 28, 2011, the IMA launched a book on the building of an artisanal fishing vessel. The book provides the only record of the building of this type of fishing vessel, which was popular in Trinidad until the mid 1980s. The vessel featured in the book was constructed at a boat yard in Carenage and was used to assist the IMA in its early field research efforts before it increased its fleet of small research vessels.
Author of the book is Richard Hubbard, a former marine biologist at the IMA (now retired) who has a passion for wood working.

Mr. Harold La Borde, double circumnavigator, provided the Foreword to the book and addressed attendees at the launch, while Mr. Courtney Lange, Naval Architect, gave an inspiring address to the gathering which was held at The Anchorage, Chaguaramas.
Construction of an Artisanal Fishing Boat from Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies is available at the IMA's Information Centre, Nigel R. Khan Bookseller, The Paper-based bookstore, The Normandie, The UWI Bookshop and Rainy Days at Ellerslie Plaza.
