IMA’s 8th Community Research Symposium
Protecting Our Environment and Preserving Our Heritage through Research
On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, IMA hosted its 8th Community Research Symposium in the East Training Room (Second Floor) of the Shaw Park Cultural Complex in Scarborough, Tobago with the theme “Protecting Our Environment and Preserving Our Heritage through Research”.
Our researchers spoke on coastal/shoreline monitoring; bathing beach water quality; lionfish management; coral reef health; coral spawning; and seagrass importance.
Giselle Thompson, vice president of corporate operations at bpTT, discussed their strategy for sustainability and marine resilience. Marine Resilience Initiative, often known as MARIN, is a project that the IMA and bpTT have worked together since 2020. MARIN seeks to determine the feasibility of coral and seagrass rehabilitation strategies given their current ecological state, existing disturbances and management practices.
IMA’s GIS Unit conducted a live demonstration and tour of the IMA’s Marine Data Hub, a web-based spatial data warehousing and management system. Click the link to learn more: https://mdh.ima.gov.tt/portal/apps/sites/#/datahub
