Celebrating World Water Day under the theme, Accelerating Change.
Water affects us all and we all need to take action!

Local Scenario ---
• The estimated daily consumption of water per capita in Trinidad and Tobago is 82 gallons per day while the average consumption per capita in the region is 46 gallons.
• A draft Integrated Water Resources Management Strategy (IWRMS 2018) was submitted for Government’s approval, and this document includes promoting the coordinated development and management of water resources
• We all need to play our part, from the individual to the collective, in how we sustainably manage the use and conservation of this precious commodity for use by future generations
.
Call-to-Action---
• Repair burst water pipes and dripping faucets at home
• Take shorter showers
• Adhere to the regulations during the dry season when there are restrictions on the use of water for household tasks such as watering the lawn and washing cars.
• Do not waste water
Report any burst pipes with running water to the authorities – WASA

As we recognized World Seagrass Day for the first time this year, throughout this month, we'll be highlighting how important seagrasses are. This week, we'll look at their importance.
.
Seagrasses are very productive, faunally rich, and ecologically important marine resources that provide nursery habitats for a number of commercially important species such as fish, conch, and lobster, and they help sequester carbon dioxide in the ocean. They are semi-permeable filters that stabilize bottom sediments, slow current flow, prevent erosion, and filter suspended solids and nutrients from coastal waters.
As we continue to emphasize the significance of seagrasses, be sure to tune in every Thursday this month to learn more.

Macqueripe Bay is generally calm and good for swim

Macqueripe Bay is generally calm and good for swimming, but from November to April it may be very rough. The seabed is uneven, so swimmers should be careful. Snorkelling can be done in the marginal fringing reef area offshore, and SCUBA diving is also popular. Turtles have been known to lay their eggs on this beach, making Macqueripe a point of interest to naturalists. Paid parking is available and there are picnic huts and a food concession located just off the car park. Lifeguard service is provided on weekends and public holidays. There is a nominal fee for use of change rooms, toilets and showers. For thrill-seekers, Trinidad’s first zip line and canopy tours attraction is located above the beach.
