The Institute of Marine Affairs was set up in 1976 by an Act of Parliament but became functional in 1978. Our mandate is to conduct scientific research on the coastal and marine environment and advise government on the sustainable management of our natural resources. This year, IMA celebrates its 40th Anniversary of operations. We have contributed scientific knowledge in almost every area of the marine and environment all field from chemistry, geology, oceanography, ecology, fisheries and aquaculture to marine and environmental law and policy.
