Institute of Marine Affairs Research Seminar: Seed to Sea

The IMA hosted its internal research seminar featuring Raisa Ramdeen, PhD student of the University of British Columbia. Her presentation titled, “Seed to Sea – Why Genomics Belongs in Your Seagrass Conservation Toolkit“, highlighted the role of conservation genomics in supporting a stronger and more climate-resilient seagrass restoration. Held on April 10th, 2026 in the IMA Auditorium, the presentation sparked thoughtful discussion on how these tools can enhance marine conservation practices.

The seminar aligns closely with ongoing seagrass research conducted by the IMA, which includes work under the MARIN Tobago Project – where seagrass studies are underway – in addition to the Institute’s current experimentation with growing seagrass ex-situ.

As the IMA continues to explore innovative approaches that facilitate the protection of marine ecosystems, conversations such as these serve to bridge cutting-edge science with practical conservation activities.
