Job Vacancy:
GEOSPATIAL TECHNICIAN

The Job

The successful candidate would be required to collect, process, develop and analyse spatial data and information for a diverse range of environmental projects; create and maintain GIS databases and assist with the ongoing development and maintenance of geospatial products to meet internal and/or external customer needs; conduct remotely sensed analysis for the development of products.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather and utilise information to ensure digital format of maps are current.
• Create and maintain GIS databases.
• Assist with the ongoing development and maintenance of geospatial products to meet internal and/or external customer needs.
• Any other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience

• Undergraduate degree in Geomatics/Geography/Environmental Studies.
• Proficient in ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro.
• A background in GNSS surveys and processing would be an asset.
• Experience in conducting research would be an asset.

Hammerhead Sharks
Happy Sharky Friday! Today we feature one of the most easily recognizable group of sharks - the hammerhead sharks. The heads of these sharks are flattened & laterally extended into a “hammer-shape”. Five of the 9 known species of hammerhead sharks occur in our waters including the largest species, the Great hammerhead. Unfortunately, the hammerhead of these sharks make them extremely vulnerable to overfishing as they become easily entangled in fishing nets. Hammerhead sharks are also a diver’s favorite and they are a big attraction for dive tourists in many parts of the world.
