IMA Supporting the St. Francois Girls’ College World-of-Work Programme 2025
In its ninth year, the Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) was proud to host students from the St. Francois Girls’ College as part of the School’s World-of-Work Internship Programme from July 15-25, 2025.
The Form Four students gained hands-on experience in the research laboratories and various Research Programmes alongside scientists at the IMA. Adorned in the school’s dark green uniform blazer with the St. Francois Girls’ College monogram prominently displayed, the four students found the experience at the IMA to be meaningful, giving them a glimpse into the world of conducting marine scientific research and preparing them to cultivate sound work ethics.
Dr Ava Maxam, IMA Director, bade the students a formal farewell, acknowledging their departure with reflections on their time spent at the IMA, expressing gratitude for their contributions during the two weeks and, wishing them success in their future academic pursuits.
According to Dr. Maxam, having students participate in the World-of-Work programs in the workplace offers benefits for both the students and the employers. Students build valuable skills, gain practical experience and have the opportunity to explore potential career paths. Dr. Maxam added that as employers, we contribute to shaping future skills development, preparing our youth for a modern workforce to thrive in an environment offering state-of-the-art science, research and development. This also provides the IMA with the opportunity to identify future employees and tap into fresh perspectives.
Dr. Maxam said the IMA looks forward to continuing these partnerships, supporting our nation’s youth in exploring their vocation and shaping their careers with the World-of-Work programmes.
